Jake Schumann
Head Coach
Jake Schumann is the fourth head softball coach in the school’s history and has already made an impact.
In his first year, Coach Schumann doubled the Islanders' win totals in both the conference and overall. Adding to the Islanders’ tradition,outfielder Kim Connelly was named “Newcomer of the Year” in the Southland Conference.
Schumann comes to A&M-Corpus Christi from A&M-Kingsville where he was the head coach for four seasons. In his final season, he guided the Javelinas to a 34-22 record and a trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament. He is TAMUK's all-time winningest softball coach with 120 victories. During his time at Kingsville, he guided the Javelinas to three 30-win seasons and improved the team batting average in each of the four seasons he was there. Schumann coached 19 All-Lone Star Conference players, as well a Pitcher of the Year and the school’s first-ever Player of the Year.
He also coached the program’s first All-American.
Prior to arriving in Kingsville, Schumann was the head coach at Carl Albert State College (Okla.) for two years. While at Carl Albert, Schumann turned a team around almost overnight. The year before Schumann arrived, the team posted a 19-35 record. With Schumann at the helm in 2002, Carl Albert went 31-23 and was the Region II runner- up. In 2003 the Vikings went 31-17 and finished third in the Regional Tournament.
Schumann is a native of Maplewood, Minn. He played baseball two years at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before transferring to Ball State University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from St. Xavier University in Chicago, Ill. He also has a Secondary Social Studies Certification from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. Schumann received his master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in May 2006 and is married to the former Julie Campbell.
